LANSING – State Representative Fred Miller (D-Mount Clemens) had a perfect voting record in 2007, one of only 18 in the 110-member House to achieve that level of representation for constituents.
"It didn't matter whether House sessions were called on short notice, or whether the roads were iced over from a winter storm – I knew I had to be there to do the job I was sent to Lansing to do," Miller said. "On every single vote taken in 2007, I was there as an outspoken advocate on the House floor to fight for the residents of Macomb County."
Miller, who is Chair of the House Labor Committee, has introduced aggressive initiatives to create jobs for Michigan workers. He supported measures to help reform state government and ease budget pressures, including voting to slash lawmaker salaries by 5 percent and end free lifetime health care for legislators. His consumer-protection work includes a package to help homeowners whose struggles to pay their mortgages are putting them at risk of foreclosure.
Miller has been proactive in securing funds for local K-12 schools and Macomb Community College, and successfully worked to ensure that the Sterling Heights State Police Crime Lab remained open. As a member of the House Great Lakes and Environment Committee, Miller is working on a comprehensive plan that provides long-term protection to Great Lakes waters; he has also fought to obtain grants for a water-quality testing program that includes Lake St. Clair.
"My first priority is to the people of Macomb County – and my voting record last year shows how committed I am to serving as the voice of the residents I represent," Miller said. "I voted on every single matter that came before the House this year – that's 624 votes. It's my job to make sure that our community's needs and interests are taken into account, and that residents' concerns are part of the decision-making process."
